November 26, 2020 during the PAP-FOR Online Forum (the only pulp and paper industry exhibition in Russia and Eastern Europe) the results of the international award PAP-FOR Awards, which was held for the first time this year, were summed up.
The PAP-FOR Awards are awarded to pulp and paper mills and manufacturers, equipment and service suppliers for their successful contribution to the development of pulp and paper industry in Russia and the CIS.
More than 30 applications were sent to the organizing committee of the Award, and the winners were chosen by the members of the Expert Council, consisting of recognized professionals in the pulp and paper sector.
As noted by the organizers, the decisions about the winners were made collectively and are of expert collective character.
The Arkhangelsk PPM JSC became the winner in Effective Strategy in Environmental Protection.
The main task of the mill is to improve the environmental safety of production and reduce the negative impact on the environment and GHG emissions. In 2019, 2.9 billion rubles were invested in the implementation of environmental protection measures and the adoption of BAT.
Over the past two years, the mill has carried out the following activities within the technical re-equipment program: the rebuild of board machines, the construction of a new evaporation station using BAT: collection and combustion of NCG, the production of the entire volume of bleached sulphate pulp using ECF technology (without the use of elemental chlorine), installation of a new power boiler using low-emission burners and highly efficient gas treatment equipment with the decommissioning of an outmoded boiler, the rebuild of the waste disposal facility – the ash dump of section no. 4, reconstructed according to a project positively approved by the State Ecological Appraisal. By 2020, the mill has excluded the disposal of the main large capacity waste of pulp and paper production (sewage sludge and bark wood waste).
