One of the largest raw forest managers in Russia, group of companies Titan* and Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill** has supported WWF worldwide environmental campaign “Earth Hour”.
Group of companies Titan and Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill became the title partner of the event. This is a continuation of a longstanding collaborative effort with WWF: both companies has consistently supported the projects of WWF Russia. For example, last year Arkhangelsk PPM contributed to creation of Dvinsko-Pinezhsky State Nature Reserve of regional importance with an area 302 thousand hectares. The basis of the nature reserve creation is formed by the agreements between environmental organizations and timber agents on refusal of cutting the high conservation value forests, concluded thanks to voluntary certification of FSC® - Forest Stewardship Council®. Group of companies Titan signed an agreement on voluntary protection of the undisturbed taiga with an area 1,834 ha adjacent to Dvinsko-Pinezhsky nature reserve.
Besides, the companies themselves try to follow the “green” rules. Thus, Arkhangelsk PPM – one of the main forest-chemical enterprises of Russia and Eastern Europe – produces board, bleached kraft pulp, different types of paper, green copy-books and other types of products certified by FSC. Moreover, the mill has elaborated and implemented the procedures to control greenhouse gas emissions and to manage the information and has become the first Russian company to get the CDP certificate.
Group of companies Titan, a raw forest supplier to Arkhangelsk PPM and Sawmill 25 CJSC (the largest sawmill enterprise in the European Russia), realizes the danger to the Russian forests, and switches to the responsible forest management thinking long term. GC Titan with the participation of FSC has signed with WWF Russia a Roadmap on preservation of high conservation value forests till 2028.
The Roadmap includes a plan of actions on conservation of biological and landscape diversity, including extension of existing nature conservation areas and creation of new areas in 24 forest compartments in the Arkhangelsk region, that are under operational management of GC Titan, Arkhangelsk PPM and Sawmill 25. In addition, in 2020 GC Titan begins putting into practice an intensive stable model of forestry management on its rental lease territory on the area of more than 2.5 mln hectares.
The holding’s own forest nursery situated in the Nyandomsky District will grow about a million of young pines and fir trees to recover the cutting of forest lands on the area 20 thousand hectares. Last year GC planted about 2.5 mln of softwood nursery plants (half of them deep rooted) on the area 16.7 thousand hectares.
