APPM adopted a strategy of low-carbon development up to 2030

12 nov 2018

Arkhangelsk PPM recognizes dangerous and disastrous effects of global climate changes for the human being and for the environment and assesses climatic risks and risks for its own production and commercial activities, and as a result, it adopted its own strategy of low-carbon development for the period up to 2030.

“We cannot help noticing global climatic changes. And recognizing our impact on climate system, APPM intentionally conducts a multistage program of key productions of the mill, intended for maximum possible mitigation of human impact on climate” – noted the member of the Board of Directors of APPM Vladimir Krupchak.

He also clarified that the adoption of corporate strategy of low-carbon development for the purpose of climate risks reduction and intended for the enhancement of competitive ability of the products on domestic and foreign market.

The document establishes time frames from January 1, 2018 till December 31, 2030.

The strategy covers and regulates the production site of APPM and affiliated companies of the mill as well – Byt, JSC (public facilities of Novodvinsk), logistic center Arkhbum, JSC in Novodvinsk; Podolsk, Istra and Voronezh branches of Arkhbum, JSC division and the factory of sanitary tissue products in Kaluga region – Arkhbum Tissue Group, LLC”.

The purposes of climatic strategy include two basic points: the reduction of absolute emissions of greenhouse gases by 55% in comparison with basic 1990 to 1.4 mln. tons of СО2-equivalent at the expected cooking 1 mln. tons per year. At the same time – establishment, verification and approval of scientifically based purpose of the reduction of greenhouse gases specific emissions in the corresponding Proactive body (SBTi); this purpose meets the targets and objectives of Paris Agreement with regard to the reduction of climatic changes. And the reduction of other indirect emissions of greenhouse gases – by 20 % in comparison with 2015 up to 370 thous. tons of СО2-equivalent per year.

According to Vladimir Krupchak, in order to achieve this purpose, APPM is performing the activities intended for the reduction of energy to output ratio, raising of efficiency of all types of fuel during energy output with own energy sources, increase of biomass rate in fuel balance, replacement of fossil fuels with high specific emissions of greenhouse gases with less carbon-intensive fuel (replacement of coal with natural gas).
