APPM books as a gift to Arkhangelsk schools

12 mar 2021

On March 11, 2021, a ceremony of handing over the two-volume book of the Arkhangelsk PPM to the schools of the capital of Pomorie was held at the Arkhangelsk administration.

The first book of the dilogy is “The Birth of a Giant. 1934-1940" dedicated to the history of the construction of the mill and the chronicles of the Russian North in the 1930s. The second book is “Time of Feat. 1941-1945". It tells about the fate of Pomorie and Arkhbum during the Great Patriotic War. The authors of the books are Pavel Fasonov and Elena Zakharova, the employees of the Arkhangelsk PPM.

“Each of the 51 schools in Arkhangelsk will receive this two-volume book as a gift,” said Vladimir Beloglazov, Advisor to the CEO of the mill, at the book presentation ceremony. “The books are a social and educational project of the APPM and are distributed to libraries and schools in the Arkhangelsk region, as well as translated into English”.

Vladimir Beloglazov also emphasized that the decision to publish such a unique dilogy was made by Vladimir Krupchak, the Director for Investment Policy of Pulp Mill Holding, member of the Board of Directors of APPM.

The books are detailed and vivid works showing the milestone events of the country of the 20th century, how our small motherland lived, how it overcame difficulties and aimed new achievements. The heroes of these books - builders, production workers, engineers – put their names in the history of Pomorie and the motherland forever. Thanks to people like them, our motherland successfully implemented the industrial development of the 1930s, became a powerful industrial nation and won the Great Patriotic War.

The books have been prepared for over 10 years. Thousands of archival documents were studied in the Russian State Archive of Economics, the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the State Archives of the Arkhangelsk Region, the archives of the information center of the Division of the Ministry of Interior of Russia for the Arkhangelsk Region and the Regional Division of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Arkhangelsk Region, the funds of APPM’s museum, the archives of municipal district "City of Novodvinsk", archives of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC, newspapers "Bumazhnik" and "Pravda Severa". Some of the documents were declassified and became available only in modern times.

The narration is accompanied by unique illustrative material. These are art drawings specially made for the book and more than a thousand old photos. Almost all of them have been restored and digitized specifically to create a book dilogy.

The preparation of the dilogy is a large social, historical and educational project of the Arkhangelsk PPM. It helped to reveal and promote the historical facts about the past of the Arkhangelsk PPM, Pomorie and the country. It is an effective tool for the patriotic education of the younger generation. The accessibility of narration and modern presentation of historical material in the books attracts the attention of readers of different ages, everyone who is interested in the history of the country and the past of their small motherland.

Note that the book "The Birth of a Giant" won the Arkhangelsk regional competition "Book of the Year - 2019" in the main category "The Best Book about the Russian North. Author". The two-volume book of the Arkhangelsk PPM "The Birth of a Giant" and "Time of Feat" in 2020 was awarded the Lomonosov Prize, established by the government of the Arkhangelsk region, the administration of Arkhangelsk and the Interregional Public Lomonosov Fund.
