On January 22, 2021 there was a business meeting on issues relating to scientific and technical cooperation of two anchor enterprises of Association “Pulp and Paper Regional Innovation Cluster of Arkhangelsk Region “PomorInnovaLes” – Arkhangelsk PPM, JSC” and Group of Companies “Titan” with the Northern Arctic Federal university.

The Parties discussed the issues concerning restoration of rented forests, that were passed under the control of “Titan” Holding (by the beginning of this year their area exceeded 1.3 mln. ha) – the important element for stable development of the mill.

Shareholder of Arkhangelsk PPM Pulp Mill Holding GmbH approved an initiative for organization of group of seed plots intended for growing planting material in Arkhangelsk region. The first stage of it is organization of selective seed-growing center in Novodvinsk based at the former greenhouse facility.   

“The companies of “Titan” holding are actively occupied in forest restoration on areas under development, they channel significant investments for these purposes, - pointed out Director General of APPM Dmitriy Zyliov. – Taking into consideration the decision of our shareholder to organize the group of seed plots in Novodvinsk, we should establish cooperation with NArFU with regard to ensuring scientific researches for growing of planting material with the improved hereditary properties using innovative technologies”.

The Head of University Elena Kudryashova confirmed that NArFU is ready to swing into this action: “The first steps in that direction have been done already: the room for a chair for carrying out primary experiments has been already prepared. Such researches are urgently needed before implementation of research results to large-scale production. On the first stage the task is to grow 3 mln. of seedlings with a view to increase their amount up to 9 mln. per year”.

During the discussion between scientists and timbermen the main rules for scientific and technical cooperation were established: growing of planting material with the improved hereditary properties and the use of innovative technologies, preparation of growing medium from sludge of pulp and paper industry and algal production, construction of bio-degradable containers for planting material.

Besides, it is planned to locate scientific laboratory and the branch of higher school chair of natural sciences NArFU.

On November 25, 2014 the order on organization of Pulp and Paper Innovation Regional Cluster of the governor of Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov was issued.

On March 25, 2016 Association “Pulp and Paper Regional Innovation Cluster of Arkhangelsk Region “PomorInnovaLes” was registered.

Cluster “PomorInnovaLes” includes 43 participants, among them logging companies, sawmills of the region, educational and scientific institutions, organizations of transport and energy infrastructure of the region.

Cluster core is Arkhangelsk PPM, JSC, “Titan”, GC, Sawmill 25, CJSC, Arkhangelsk Plywood factory, JSC.
