In 2020, APPM reduced the amount of direct and energy indirect GHG emissions by 10.9%

By the order Arkhangelsk PPM JSC, the CarbonLab LLC carried out an inventory and quantitative determination of direct, energy indirect and other indirect emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) related with the production and economic activities of the company.

The inventory and quantitative determination of GHG emissions were carried out in accordance with the requirements of the international Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. At the same time, all types of GHGs of anthropogenic origin were considered, which are subject to mandatory accounting in accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

According to the report on GHG emissions for 2020, the amount sum of direct and energy indirect GHG emissions of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC (including all subsidiaries and their branches) amounted to 1 959 242 t СО2e. Other indirect GHG emissions of the company for 2020 are equal to 438 907 t СО2e.

The amount sum of direct and energy indirect GHG emissions of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC in 2020 is 240 758 t СО2e or 10.9% below the voluntary obligation level. The actual specific GHG emissions in 2020 amounted to 1 972 t СО2e/t, which is lower than the adopted target by 0.228 t СО2e/t or 10.4%.

In accordance with the Climate Strategy of Arkhangelsk PPM, approved in 2013, the reporting year 2020 is the target year for GHG emissions limiting. The voluntary obligation of the company to limit the total direct and energy indirect GHG emissions, set by the strategy, is 2 200 000 t СО2e per year with an increase in pulp cooking up to 1 million tons per year. The specific emissions should not exceed 2.2 t СО2e per ton of pulp.

Thus, the voluntary obligation of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC to limit GHG emissions for the period up to 2020 was successfully fulfilled.
