02 aug 2021

The auditing firm KMPG JSC completed the verification of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC GHG emission report for 2020 (https://home.kpmg/ru/ru/home.html).

The audit confirmed the reliability of information, contained in the final document of the mill regarding the inventory and quantitative determination of direct, energy indirect and other indirect GHG emissions related to the mill production activity.

The inventory and quantitative determination of the GHG emissions was done in accordance with the requirement of international standard - The Greenhouse Gas Protocol: A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Moreover, all types of GHGs of anthropogenic origin subject to mandatory accounting under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change were considered.

According to the GHG emission report 2020, the sum of direct and energy indirect GHG emissions of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC (including all subsidiaries and their branches) amounted to 1,959,242 t CO2e. Other indirect GHG emissions of the company in 2020 amounted to 438,907 t CO2e.

The sum of direct and energy indirect GHG emissions of Arkhangelsk PPM JSC in 2020 is 240,758 t CO2e or 10.9% below the level set by the voluntary obligation. The actual specific GHG emissions in 2020 amounted to 1.972 t CO2e/t, which is below the target value by 0.228 t CO2e/t or by 10.4%.

In accordance with the Climate Strategy of Arkhangelsk PPM, approved in 2013, the reporting year 2020 is the target year for GHG emissions limiting. The voluntary obligation of the company to limit the total direct and energy indirect GHG emissions, set by the strategy, is 2 200 000 t СО2e per year with an increase in pulp cooking up to 1 million tons per year. The specific emissions should not exceed 2.2 t СО2e per ton of pulp.
