PomorInnovaLes Сluster Offers Geoinformation Technologies to Be Integrated into the Management System of All Forest Enterprises

17 apr 2020

The exchange of experience in implementing and using geoinformation technologies in the forest enterprise management system, demonstration of capabilities of modern GIS software for logging companies, as well as increasing the effectiveness of the scientific research interaction in the field of GIS and forestry in the Arkhangelsk region suggests that such model can be implemented nationwide in Russian timber industry. This point of view was expressed by the Timber Industrial Innovative Territorial Cluster PomorInnovaLes.

This is the case of using the UMA (quadrotors) to assess forest plots for topographic surveying of the terrain for the construction of forest infrastructure, selection of plots for forest fund allocation and for key biotopes, private forest engineering, as well as for forest monitoring in order to create electronic volumetric maps of the area, inventory and environmental monitoring of lands.

The association PomorInnovaLes noted that the region has positive experience in the field of GIS research, dedicated to the assessment of the forests in the Arctic zone of the European part of Russia, creation of a technology for continuous remote monitoring of forest use, development of a program for introducing forest accounting work in the north-taiga forest area of the European part of the country, as well as to the survey of forest sites to estimate lands intended for reforestation, using remote sensing techniques.

It is proposed to use GIS for the collection, storage and processing of protected areas data for remote monitoring to assess the negative anthropogenic and natural impact on the IFL and to track violations of forest legislation on protected areas in the form of additional capabilities of GIS applications for forest operators.
