APPM once again obtained a high CDP rating with regard to the greenhouse gases emissions control across the supply chain

07 feb 2020

CDP (an international project on the disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions) assigned a high rating to Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill based on the evaluation of the mill performance in the greenhouse gases emissions control across the supply chain (See who is on the Supplier Engagement Leaderboard, Read our blog released today by Sonya Bhonsle, CDP’s Global Head of Supply Chain about supply chain leadership and find out how CDP supply chain members are demonstrating best practice on supplier engagement in CDPs Global Supply Chain Report: Changing the Chain).

For the first time, APPM indicated its willingness to calculate carbon intensity of its market products taking into account greenhouse gases emissions up the supply chain in 2016.

10 basic APPM's market products and 13 other types of products and services were evaluated in terms of the carbon intensity.

Now, the so-called 'green orientation' of business has a serious impact on the investors and customers appeal, and CDP collects information specifically for the convenience of these groups. Marking with information on the content of CO2 equivalent per 100 g of the product and carbon neutral products (with net zero carbon footprint) were introduced. More and more companies require that suppliers submit data on the products, and want to know how much carbon they purchase, i.e. data on the so-called carbon intensity.

Mikhail Yulkin, CEO of the international consulting company CCGS, underlines the following: "There are not so many companies in Russia which when assessing its impact on the climate system consider greenhouse gases emissions across the supply chain (Scope 3). Arkhangelsk PPM does not just consider them. It calculates them carefully and verifies the calculation data, i.e. it supports them by performing special verification procedure with the involvement of an independent competent organization and based on the international standard ISO. Besides that, in perspective, APPM sets the objective to reduce emissions in this respect through the cooperation with suppliers and inclusion of the emissions values into the suppliers evaluation system. These endeavors of the mill were noted in the report and highly rated. This is a good sign."
