APPM will provide scientific-based targets on GHG emissions reduction to SBTi until the end of 2019

30 jul 2019

In the framework of Low-Carbon Development Strategy by 2030, Arkhangelsk PPM sent an official statement on intent to set the scientific-based targets on GHG emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Climatic Agreement. It was announced by Vladimir Krupchak, member of BoD of the mill.

According to him, this is the first experience in Russia. Now the mill has 24 months to develop such targets guided by the SBTi criteria and guidelines and provide them to SBTi for validation (checking against the established criteria).

However, Vladimir Krupchak assured that APPM plans to present updated climatic targets by the end of 2019.

We will remind that the targets of the climate strategy are three basic points: the reduction of absolute GHG emissions by 55% to 1.4 million tons of CO2-eq. compared with 1990 with an expected cooking of 1 million tons per year. At the same time, the establishment, verification and approval of scientific-based targets on specific GHG emissions reduction per unit of production that meets the targets and tasks of the Paris Agreement in relation of climate change mitigation at the relevant initiative agency (SBTi). The reduction of other indirect GHG emissions by 20% to 370 thousand tons of CO2-eq. year compared with 2015.
