By 2030, Arkhangelsk PPM, JSC plans to reduce direct greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions by 55% to the level of 1990. Their reduction will be achieved in principle directions: reduction of energy-output ratio, growth of fuel efficiency, growth of biomass amount in fuel balance, change to less carbon-intensive fossil fuel. Engineering and organizational decisions are developed for each direction. It was announced by Deputy Director General of the mill Irina Galakhova at plenary session "Pulp and Paper Industry - leader of closed-cycle bioeconomics" in the context of the 16 international exhibition and forum of pulp and paper, forest, processing and packing industries PAP-FOR in Saint-Petersburg.

Based on the results of practical experience of Arkhangelsk PPM concerning the development of scientifically grounded target on the criterion of "non-exceedance of 1.50", the task for obtaining additional assessment for planned production modernization in regards to climatic aspects and setting more ambitious strategic goals are in the process of elaboration. In particular, carbon-neutrality aspect is being studied.

It is approval documentation regulating the permissible impact on the environment per the unit of output products in terms of techniques in operation. In connection with environmental control it is risk management tool as well. It is obvious that more environment-friendly technologies save resources, raw materials, time and thus, they are more cost-efficient" - summarized APPM representative.

In her speech, Irina Galakhova also mentioned about new global project at Arkhangelsk PPM BREAKTHROUGH-2027: construction on the site of the mill of a new sulphate-board plant with board machine - 3 with 700 thous.tons per year capacity, corresponding to all worldwide requirements. Amount of investments is 120 bln.rub (1.4 bln.Euro), IRR - 7.7%, payback period is 12 years. The beginning of project implementation - 2022, construction period - 4.5 years, the planned date of technological start-up - the end of 2026.

"The completion of this project will let us increase EBITDA, provide company's capitalization growth and definitely, improve environmental situation in the North of Arkhangelsk region due to the further introduction of the best available techniques" - said Irina Galakhova.

Along with this, she put emphasis on the required measures of state aid for this project.
