Arkhangelsk PPM has successfully completed compliance verification of the greenhouse gas emissions management system and the data on greenhouse gas emissions for 2018 with the requirements of ISO 14064-1:2006 (ISO 14064-1:2006 Greenhouse gases - Part 1: Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals).

The verification was performed by the independent certifying entity Bureau Veritas Certification.

The sum of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by Arkhangelsk PPM JSC (including all subsidiaries and their branches) for 2018 amounted to 1,805,399 tons of СО2-eq, which is 41.8% less than in the reference 1990.

The main factors which contributed to the decrease of greenhouse gas emissions compared to the reference year, are:

  • Increase of the biomass content in the fuel balance from 28.1% to 46.2%;

  • Decrease of the energy intensity of production on the Arkhangelsk PPM in Novodvinsk (heat – by 33%, electrical energy – by 18.2%);

  • Reduction of electricity consumption from third-party sources by 91.1%.

In addition, other indirect greenhouse gas emissions are verified for the year 2018, they amounted to 474,989 tons СО2-eq.

Arkhangelsk PPM JSC is the only enterprise in Russia, which has been verifying annually since 2013 the greenhouse gas management system and the data on greenhouse gas emissions against the regulatory requirements of ISO 14064-1:2006. For the present moment, the enterprise has verified the greenhouse gas emissions for the reference year 1990 and for the period from 2012 to 2018.
