On the basis of the results of the fourth rating of social performance of the largest Russian companies of AK&M Agency in pulp and paper industry and timber processing, APPM became the most socially-effective company and was among top three companies in category “The most socially responsible company” (Rating of social performance (akmrating.ru). 

All in all, the evaluation list contained 45 companies with the best practice of sustainable development as of 2020.

As noted by RА AK&M, rating contains the companies, the activity of which is related to the principles of sustainable development and which provide information on social and ecological activity to the fullest extent possible.

The aim of rating is the show the companies, bringing maximum benefit to the society with minimum environmental impact and strike the balance between environmental impact of plants and their positive effect for people.

“Important part of Arkhangelsk PPM activity is implementation and management of Principles of responsible investments of the UN (PRI), providing the standard of responsible investments, because it belongs to the factors related to environment, social and corporate government (ESG), - pointed out Chief Investment Director of Pulp Mill Holding Vladimir Krupchak.

APPM investments to environmental protection activities, introduction of best available techniques over the last 10 years amounted to 15 bln. rub. due to which the mill has meaningful results in environmental improvement. Vladimir Krupchak reminded that the mill has been forming ecological direction of activity and introducing the means of greenhouse gas reduction (GG): in 1998 the mill began using biomass as fuel, in 2003 it undertook the first voluntary commitments on GG reduction, in 2013 the mill performed monitoring of GG emissions and information management, in 2016 it began implementation of the project on carbon footprint management, from 2019 it was recognized as national leader of worldwide climatic rating CDP. In 2020 there was the completion of global project “Rebuild of board production department”, which enabled to improve ecology on footprint territory. Besides, the UN regarded APPM environmental program as one of the best worldwide practices on achievement of sustainable development goals.

“One of international principles of responsible investments – social development, that’s why creation of positive and socio-economic environment for our employees and for population of footprint territories as well is one of major priorities of our activity, - mentioned Vladimir Krupchak. – Currently APPM apply about 350 mln. rub., including funds for charitable programs about 100 mln. rub. annually for social programs and benefits.

At Arkhangelsk PPM, there is one of the best social programs for employees in timber industry. There are more than 20 options related to this program. Among them are: rehabilitation treatment of employees, VHI, financing of expenditures for children’s rest and rehabilitation, purchase of the New year presents for them, trip vouchers for pensioners – former employees of the mill, money assistance for funerals, assistance for multi-child families, for a child’s birth, for retirees on anniversaries, for operations and examinations, reimbursement of expenses related to the movement to a new place of living etc.

APPM applies significant investments for employees training, preventive health care, reduction of occupational risks. In 2020 investments to the events related to improvement of labor occupational safety amounted almost 140 mln. rub.

Since 2016 APPM takes part in co-investment of program “Housing of young families”, in terms of which a financial assistance for 110 families of employees was rendered.

In March 2020 Pulp Mill Holding established a support program for regional medical and social institutions on all footprint territories. It is implemented up to the present day.

Contribution to the development of the Arctic region economy – investments intended for maintenance of social infrastructure facilities of Novodvinsk, providing services for the whole population of the city (sports and health center; health care center “Zhemchuzhina Severa”; Palace of culture; hotel “Uyut”).

The mill provides charity support in top 10 spheres annually (development of infrastructure, social and cultural sphere of Novodvinsk and Primorsk region, support of community-based organizations of Novodvinsk and Arkhangelsk regions, support of sport, education, ecology, cultural and educational projects, Russian Orthodox Church).
